A solar-powered wireless navigation system made easy

A solar-powered, wireless network of marine electronic instruments may sound
like science fiction, but Tacktick’s Micronet navigation system brings this
technology to the real world. Data is transmitted from hull transducers, wind
instruments and even GPS units to wireless displays located around the vessel.
There are no long wire runs connecting the senders to the display units,
which can be installed anywhere on board. A lithium cell charged by a built-in
solar panel powers the units, which display information in either analog or
digital form. Data include speed, heading, depth and wind information.
Existing GPS units on board can be utilized by connecting the NMEA interface
to the Micronet transmitter. An information-on-deck package employs a laptop PC
to display navigation and racing software.
