Harken’s Carbon-Topped Winch Improves Line Handling.
Waterfront: Harken

Harken
Weight is a concern aboard sailboats, particularly ocean racers and performance-oriented cruisers. Carbon is one of the modern materials with a high strength-to-weight ratio that owners like and looks good while it’s working. Taking advantage of its properties, Harken’s engineers developed the Carbon V-Top winch.

Traditional aluminum jaws are replaced by lightweight carbon teeth, allowing sailors to quickly secure and release lines. The top of the winch has smooth, flat shapes without the ridges used on more traditional top-cleat winches. This provides a safer surface as well as improved aesthetics. The top cleat allows sailors to secure a line quickly and uncleat it with a single upward motion instead of having to first remove the line from the cleat.

The lightweight, high-performance winch is available in seven aluminum-drum diameters from 4.75 to 11 inches.
