Waterfront: Lifesaver
Doctor Creates a Compact Lifesaving Solution.

After his father-in-law suffered a heart attack while aboard a boat 30 miles off Florida’s coast, Dr. Richard Townsend realized the need for a Mobile Medic. Designed to be at-the-ready in an emergency, the patented Marine Life Unit may be the most welcome traveling companion for people living a mobile lifestyle.

Early defibrillation and oxygen are the most important interventions in resuscitating the heart. Based on this, the unit, comprising an easy-to-use Philips HeartStart Onsite Defibrillator, a blood-pressure cuff, cervical collar, stethoscope, and mask and canister, allows first responders to administer an hour’s worth of oxygen. Marinized for use on boats, it also includes the necessary equipment and supplies to treat jellyfish stings, lacerations, orthopedic injuries, dental emergencies and other common ailments, including motion sickness.

The Marine Life Unit comes packed into a yellow, water-resistant nylon bag. The package weighs 28 pounds, measures 24 by 14 by 13 inches and can be carried as a backpack. An instructional DVD and manual are included.
