SkyHawk Optics kept the quality optics used
for 35 years in the Chinese military’s border-guard binoculars, but it spent 18
months redesigning and retooling them to produce the SkyHawk 9600. The new
design encloses the four-inch-diameter optics in a two-foot-long aluminum body,
reducing the weight by half—to 17 pounds—and adds an ergonomic carrying
handle and retractable sunshades.
The 9600 includes two interchangeable viewing lenses, 25-times
power for terrestrial viewing and a 40-times stargazing lens for celestial
gazing. The 45-degree eyepiece angle provides comfort while viewing objects
higher in the sky for longer periods of time.
SkyHawk includes a professional anodized-aluminum tripod with a
one-touch fluid-action panhead and lockable, soft-rubber covered stainless steel
rollers. It mounts the binocular at a comfortable five-foot viewing height that
cranks higher for taller users. A custom aluminum case is also included.
