Cranking out 30 kilowatts at 60 hertz at 1,800 rpm, Northern Lights’
M944W2 is designed for a long life while operating at full load. The
manufacturer’s W-Series generator is driven by a reliable four-cylinder
Lugger engine, displacing 203 cubic inches (3.33 liters), with a maximum of
2,500 rpm.
The genset’s marine protection includes a cupro-nickel heat
exchanger; a bronze/stainless-steel, gear-driven seawater pump; and a sturdy,
cast-iron, freshwater-cooled exhaust manifold with no dry risers. Options
include a 90-amp DC alternator for battery charging and a front-end PTO with
an electric clutch that delivers hydraulic power to drive winches, bow
thrusters, anchor windlass and other gear.
