Seatorque Control Systems’ (SCS) Enclosed Shaft System is a
bolt-in-place, oil-filled, self-contained shaft thrust bearing assembly. The
system is supplied as a complete unit, from propeller end to engine input
coupling.
The propeller thrust is fielded by internal thrust bearings and
delivered through the mounting system to the vessel’s structure, rather than
through the main propulsion engines, reducing vibration and noise emissions and
increasing engine and transmission life. It eliminates leaky stuffing boxes,
cutless bearings in the strut and associated shaft wear.
Due to the non-rotating shaft casing, water flow around the shaft
is undisturbed, allowing clean water flow to the propeller. This translates to
an increase in thrust, allowing more delivered horsepower to the propeller. The
overall effect is a reduction in horsepower loss by an average of 10 percent,
which means greater fuel economy and range.
