Yacht Designer Introduces New Surfboard Line.

Well-known superyacht designer Ward Setzer
is expanding his range to include watercraft considerably smaller than those
that usually occupy his time: namely surfboards. Under a new corporate umbrella
called Windswell Designs, Setzer has created a line of surfboards called Fathom
that incorporates his skills as a yacht designer and reflects his own long-term
passion for the sport. The boards are designed using naval architecture
programs, then faired by traditional naval architecture design programs. After
the prototypes are tested in the waves, they’re sent to the design department of
North Carolina State University, Setzer’s alma mater, for digitization and final
form analysis. The data then is sent to Setzer’s CNC contractor and the board
blanks are cut on a five-axis router—a process not unlike the creation of a new
boat design. Setzer created Windswell Designs to provide a range of
nautical-related consumer products including marine furniture, fixtures,
recreational boats and all-around fun products for the marine enthusiast.
