Simrad’s SAR Transponder Meets IMO Requirements.
Waterfront: Stamp of Approval

Simrad
Simrad’s tiny new SA50 Search And Rescue Transponder (SART) has met IMO requirements and is approved for SOLAS applications.

Its tubular shape and overall height of 8.6 inches make it the smallest SART currently available, convenient for fixed mounting or inclusion in emergency packs. When activated by X-band radar, the unit emits 12 pulses that are integrated into the radar display as blips; the center blip indicates its location. Effective distance is line of sight plus approximately 20 percent, depending on conditions.

The nonhazardous battery has a lifespan of eight hours when operating, 96 hours in standby mode and a five-year shelf life.
