Unique Bow Thruster Minimizes Cavitation.
Waterfront: The Ring

Van Der Velden Marine
Van der Velden Marine Systems successfully completed the final testing of its innovative EPS 800 bow thruster. The revolutionary design does not rely on gearing or a propeller shaft. Instead, the seven composite blades are connected to a shock-mounted outer ring mounted in the bow tunnel rather than to a central hub. There is no clearance between the tube and the propeller, which creates a large, better-balanced blade surface, dramatically reducing cavitation, resulting in extremely quiet operation.

The design delivers a good power-performance ratio, higher power than standard thrusters at similar operating parameters and low weight. Greaseless, water-lubricated bearings ensure reliability and exchangeable blades ease maintenance and repairs. Joystick operation is standard and options include touch-screen wheelhouse and wing station controls.

The EPS 800 is available in any of four power ratings with corresponding sizes from 17.5 to 31 inches in diameter.
