The active and passive safety features aboard the Maiora 38 DP are
more common to larger boats and commercial vessels, but they are integral
selling points for Fipa Italiana builds.
Phalarope’s fiberglass hull and
superstructure are reinforced with Kevlar or carbon fiber in load-bearing areas,
such as the wheelhouse roof, and potential high-impact areas, such as the keel.
Build materials are tested to resist fatigue cycles equivalent to 20,000 work
hours or 20 years.
She is equipped with a sophisticated bilge system that comprises
monitoring systems and 17 automatic pumps to ensure flotation and stability
reserves in accordance with MCA and RINA guidelines. All rooms are fitted with
smoke and temperature detectors, and any electrical short circuits are relayed
to the wheelhouse.
"Prevention is the key," says project manager Fulvio De Salvo.
"Fire or flooding on board has to be dealt with quickly and for that you need to
have early warning. All the alarm systems can be programmed by the captain to be
transmitted in real time via GSM to one or more phone numbers if the boat is unattended."
The same applies to anti-intrusion alarms. All openings to the inside of the
yacht, including portholes, are protected.
